The prime purpose of massage is to alleviate the stress and tension that can build up in the body’s soft tissues (muscles, tendons and ligaments).

What is Remedial Massage?

It’s a system of manipulation of the soft tissues, such as muscles, tendons and ligaments. Soft tissue responds to touch and remedial massage uses techniques designed to treat both deep and superficial tissues, not dissimilar to those used in sports massage. The Remedial Massage Therapist uses skills and manipulation combined with in-depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology to bring about pain relief, correcting and normalising the body’s muscle and soft tissues.

What does it treat?

It can be used as an injury preventative technique as well as a treatment for injury. Massage works on many different levels and it is a unique way in which combines the various benefits to suit the individual which makes it such a versatile and effective treatment method.
Muscles not only move our joints, they stabilise them, and they provide armour for the internal organs, minor problems with these functions cause more pain than most people realise. Headaches can originate in the neck and head muscles. Trigger points in the abdominal and pelvic muscles can cause abdominal and pelvic pain. Low back pain and sciatic pain can originate in the different muscle groups.

What are the benefits?

It produces both physical and psychological benefits. Benefits include improved circulation, reduced soft tissue swelling (where present ) , the breakdown of scar tissue after injury, reduced muscle tension and a general feeling of well being.
